Help never comes for abandoned Yukon dogs

Neighbors who live near a Yukon home where three dead dogs were discovered on Monday said they had tried to get the animals help in recent months.

A state trooper at the scene said he plans to file charges against the former residents, who neighbors said moved out several weeks ago and left behind numerous cats and dogs, some of them chained.

Tara Smith and Dana Kealey, who both live near the 184 Highway St. home, said they made repeated calls to a humane officer with the Western Pennsylvania Humane Society.

Agency spokeswoman Gretchen Fieser said she was unfamiliar with the case and would try to reach the humane officer residents said they had contacted.

Smith said a humane agent shown up once that she knew of, around Thanksgiving, but that the animals' care did not appear to change....
