Police: Company claimed to kill dogs that didn't exist

The owner of an area animal control company has been accused of defrauding the state of more than $37,000 by claiming to kill dogs that never existed.

Bernard Dudash, 74, of 12 Mary St., Kennedy Township, has been charged by the state police organized crime unit with theft by deception and tampering with records.

According to court records, Dudash, owner of Triangle Pet Services Co. Inc. in McKees Rocks, filed false reports between July 2007 and April 2011 with the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, seeking reimbursements for animals that were supposed to be humanely killed.

Triangle Pet provides animal control services for several communities throughout southwestern Pennsylvania. It routinely retrieves stray or neglected animals, kennels them and then destroys them if necessary.

Triangle Pet receives $30 from the agriculture department per dog the company destroys. Police said the company was overpaid $37,384.
