Fairview Park is a beautiful area in South Fayette near Bridgeville and
Upper St. Clair, right off of Boyce Road, and not far from Rt. 79.
It's easy to get to, but it sits back from the main roads so I think it's
a place that few people know about. It sits high up on the hill and the
view from the top point is spectacular. It's peaceful with miles of
wide walking trails and never too crowded. Dogs are allowed off leash
in certain areas of the park marked with flags. There are no separate
areas for large or small dogs as it is a widespread park and dogs of all
sizes walk freely throughout the park (with their people of course).
Because it is so isolated from traffic and spans over a couple of miles,
there are no fenced areas. It sits back in a residential area and
the off leash section is far from any roads, surrounded by a forest.
There is talk that they may be banning the off-leash zones due to a few
irresponsible pet owners, but I'm not sure if it's a rumor or not. I go
during the day, so the evenings may be a bit more populated, but because
it's so spread out, there is plenty of room for lots of running,
playing with other social pups, or just walking solo along side your best
bud. It's my therapy for a stressful day. There are a few water
fountains in the leashed area, but in the off leash area it is nothing but
nature and walking trails. I bring my own water bottle, treats and poop
bags. I highly recommend it to anyone whose dog loves getting a taste
of freedom off leash. You can just see the joy on their faces when we
go there. However, I would not recommend it for a dog that would take
off running and not stay close to his person since there are no fences.
Mostly big dogs go there, but I've seen dogs of all sizes, ages and
breeds there. And you can always bring them on a leash as well. -- Thanks to BethatFetchPetCare for this information!
